Gray County Jail Roster Overview
Gray County does not publish a separate official jail roster in the reviewed material. The documented path is a channel sweep. First, check Gray County Sheriff CRIMEWATCH arrests for recent arrest notices. Those posts may show the arrest location, charge headline, demographics, a photo when posted, and whether the person was transported to Ford County Jail, cited and released, or processed and bonded locally.
Second, check the Ford County Jail Population Log, because Ford County Jail is the official facility most clearly tied to Gray County arrests. Ford County warns that information changes quickly, recent status changes may not appear right away, and an arrest entry is not proof of conviction. That warning is important. A jail record answers custody questions, while a court record answers filed-charge questions.
The Ford County Jail Population Log screenshot from the official Ford County page shows the public custody-listing notice and the embedded log area.
Because the static page did not expose normal search fields, the log should be paired with phone confirmation for urgent Gray County inmate records.
Use Gray County Inmate Records
The best search order depends on how recent the arrest is. Same-day arrests may still be in local processing, recently transported, cited and released, or held under a bond order that has not yet changed online. Have the person's full name, date of arrest if known, arrest location, and charge headline from CRIMEWATCH before calling the jail or court.
- Open Gray County Sheriff CRIMEWATCH arrests and look for the most recent local post by name, date, or location.
- Read the post for transport language, especially references to Ford County Jail, citation and release, or Gray County processing and bonding.
- Open the Ford County Jail Population Log for the current serving jail listing.
- Call Ford County Jail at 620-227-4501 if the person should be in custody but the web listing is unclear.
- Call Gray County Sheriff at 620-855-3916 for the local arresting-agency side of a recent case.
- Use the Kansas District Court Public Access Portal or the Gray County District Court clerk for court-filed charges.
Gray County Roster Search Fields
The research found a field table for KASPER and federal locators, but not for a Gray County jail roster. The Ford Population Log page is still the serving jail channel. Its static source did not show a standard form with first name, last name, booking number, or date filters. That means the record search is less like a database query and more like a combined lookup through CRIMEWATCH, Ford County's public listing, and direct jail contact.
| Field Label | Type | Required | Notes |
|---|---|---|---|
| Ford log fields | Embedded/current log area | Unspecified | No normal public search form fields were visible in the inspected static source. |
| Contact phone | Phone fallback | N/A | Ford County Sheriff's Office 620-227-4501 for questions or comments. |
| CRIMEWATCH category/filter controls | Feed controls | No | Useful for arrest notices, not a complete custody roster. |
The official Gray County warrant screenshot from CRIMEWATCH warrants shows another sheriff-controlled channel that can help explain why a person was arrested or held.
A warrant page is not a custody roster, but it can point to bench warrants, arrest warrants, most wanted notices, and court follow-up.
What Gray County Records Show
Gray County's most inspectable records are CRIMEWATCH arrest entries. They are arrest notices, not live custody profiles. Ford County's population page warns that current jail data can change quickly and may contain errors. KASPER records are different again because they cover KDOC-supervised persons and are not a complete criminal history.
| Field | What It Shows |
|---|---|
| Name | CRIMEWATCH arrest subject or KASPER offender search result name. |
| Photo or mugshot | CRIMEWATCH image when posted; KASPER photo if Show Photo is selected. |
| Charges | Arrest charge headline, which may differ from court-filed charges. |
| Demographics | Age, race, gender, height, weight, hair, and eyes when posted. |
| Arrest narrative | Time, location, transport destination, and presumption-of-innocence notice. |
| Custody location | May state Ford County Jail, but the jail phone confirms current status. |
| Bond | Must be confirmed with the jail or court because status can change. |
| Court case | Filed case data from Kansas case search or Gray District Court. |
Gray County Jail vs State Prison
County jail, state prison, federal prison, and immigration detention are separate systems. A person arrested in Gray County may appear first on CRIMEWATCH, then in Ford County Jail custody, then in district court, and later in KASPER if sentenced to KDOC custody. The search should follow the custody status, not just the county of arrest.
| Custody | Where to Look | What It Covers |
|---|---|---|
| Recent Gray County arrest | Gray County Sheriff CRIMEWATCH | Arrest notice, charge headline, transport note, photo when posted. |
| Current local jail custody | Ford County Jail Population Log and phone | Current detention at the serving regional jail. |
| Sentenced Kansas prison | KDOC KASPER | State prison and KDOC-supervised population. |
| Federal custody | BOP inmate locator or USMS contact | Federal sentenced custody and federal pretrial routing. |
| Immigration custody | ICE ODLS | Detainee location, not a mugshot or court-record system. |
KASPER and Federal Inmate Search
KASPER is the Kansas Adult Supervised Population Electronic Repository. Its disclaimer says the search reflects persons and cases associated with KDOC-funded or KDOC-operated programs and is not a complete criminal history. It can be searched by name, KDOC number, KBI number, SSN, race, gender, birth date, age range, conviction county, supervision county, location, facility, and supervision type. It is updated each working day.
The KASPER disclaimer screenshot from KDOC's official offender search shows the gateway and the limits users must accept before searching.
KASPER is the correct state-prison channel after sentencing, but it should not be used as proof that a recent Gray County arrestee is or is not in the local jail.
The BOP locator screenshot from bop.gov shows the federal search channel for inmates incarcerated from 1982 to present.
BOP results do not replace Gray County inmate records. They apply when the person is in federal sentenced custody or has a federal custody history.
Gray County Jail Facilities
Only one detention facility page is resolved from the Facility Map. Ford County Jail is operated by the Ford County Sheriff's Office and serves as the documented regional jail for many Gray County arrestees. No Kansas DOC prison, BOP institution, or ICE detention facility was found physically inside Gray County.

Gray County Booking Process
Gray County official arrest notices show several outcomes after arrest. A person may be cited and released, taken to the Gray County Sheriff's Office for processing and bonding, or transported to Ford County Jail. If detention occurs, the likely sequence is identity confirmation, property inventory, search, booking photo and fingerprint process, medical screening, charge and warrant entry, bond or hold review, and housing classification at the jail.
Ford County Jail's building design supports that path. It has a separate dress-out and release route that does not cross intake and booking traffic, plus a negative-air-pressure medical unit and housing pods built to reduce movement. For court timing, use Gray County District Court at 620-855-3812 or the Kansas public case portal. For bond status, use the jail and the district-approved bondsperson list rather than relying only on the arrest notice.
Gray County Inmate Visitation
Ford County's jail design page says video visitation is used to minimize inmate movement, but the reviewed official pages did not publish a detailed public schedule, remote vendor, price, visit length, dress code, or visitor ID rule. Do not assume a person can visit based on an online arrest notice. Confirm the schedule and rules with Ford County Jail before driving from Gray County.
| Visit Question | Published Answer | What to Do |
|---|---|---|
| Public schedule | Not located in official pages reviewed | Call 620-227-4501 before travel. |
| Video visitation | Documented as part of jail design | Ask the jail about current video rules and vendor. |
| Visitor ID and dress code | Not located | Confirm before arrival. |
| Gray County local visit site | No public Gray jail visit page found | Use Ford County Jail for housed inmates. |
Note: Confirm custody first, because a CRIMEWATCH arrest post may end in citation, release, local bonding, or transport.
Gray County Jail Mail
Ford County Jail publishes detailed mail rules. Letters are not numerically restricted, but mail must go through the U.S. Postal Service and is opened and inspected for contraband. Attorney mail must be marked as privileged and is opened in the inmate's presence. Packages are allowed only for jury-trial clothing. Cash and personal checks are not accepted by mail.
| Topic | Ford County Jail Rule |
|---|---|
| Mail timing | Pickup and delivery within 48 hours of receipt, Monday through Friday, excluding holidays and weekends. |
| Address format | Inmate Name, Ford County Jail, 11311 E. Comanche, Dodge City, KS 67801. |
| Photos | Photos no larger than 3.5 by 5.5 inches; Polaroid-style photos are not accepted. |
| Money by mail | Money orders, attorney trust checks, and cashier checks accepted and recorded. |
| Free mailings | Two free mailings per week if received by 5:30 a.m. Monday. |
Gray County Records Requests
For sheriff incident reports, booking-related records, and older arrest material that is not visible on CRIMEWATCH, start with the Gray County Sheriff's Office. For Kansas Open Records Act process questions, the county's research identifies the County Clerk as Freedom of Information Officer. KORA starts at K.S.A. 45-215, and the county page says agencies may charge fees for access or copies.
VINELink is available through the national VINE interface for notification where Kansas custody data is included. The CRIMEWATCH Mobile app is also an official companion channel for Gray County Sheriff content. It advertises arrested-person browsing, mugshots where participating agencies publish them, wanted and active warrant browsing, cases, incidents, push notifications, and tips. The app does not replace the Ford County Population Log.
